If you are currently using Office Small Business Accounting 2006, you can benefit from upgrading to Office Accounting Professional 2007 (upgrading to Office Accounting Express is not possible). This article will help you move your data as fast and easy as possible.
Before you install Office Accounting Professional
We recommend that you back up your data in Small Business Accounting 2006 (SBA). However you may skip this step entirely if you have confidence that you will never user SBA again.
Note: You may have to update your version of Small Business Accounting 2006 to the latest service pack before you can Install Office Accounting Professional. The database needs to be upgraded to Service pack 2 or higher before you back up your file.
-
Open up your company in SBA
-
Select Utilities, Data Utilities in the File menu.
-
Select Backup on the Basic Tools tab.
-
Click Browse to select a backup name and location, and enter a password if desired. Click OK to create a backup.
-
SBA will now back up your database. This may take a few minutes.
-
When the company has been backed up, click OK in the Backup Completed dialog and Close the data maintenance dialog. You can now close SBA.
This backup can be used both by Small Business Accounting 2006 and by Office Accounting Professional 2007. Keep it until you have started using Office Accounting Professional 2007 and have backed up your data the first time.

The upgrade is now complete. Click Finish to start using Office Accounting Professional.
Uninstalling Small Business Accounting
Now is a good time to consider uninstalling Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 (SBA). SBA uses an older version of SQL Server called MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine), and you computer will run faster if you uninstall SBA and MSDE.
To uninstall SBA open the control panel and click Add or Remove Programs (called Programs and Features on Windows Vista).
Add or Remove Programs
Select Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting or Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006 CD 2 (depending on your version of SBA) and click Remove.
Confirm Removal
Click Yes to confirm you want to remove SBA.
Removing SBA
Windows will now take a minute or so to remove SBA.
Add or Remove Programs
SBA has now been removed. It is recommended that you remove MSDE as well to make your computer run faster.
Note: If you are using Outlook with Business Contact Manager (also known as BCM - installed with Office Professional 2003 or Office Small Business Management Edition 2003), you should not uninstall MSDE as it is being used by BCM 2003.
Add or Remove Programs
To remove MSDE, select Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) and click Remove.
Removing MSDE
Removing MSDE may take a minute or two. When the removal process is complete, close add or remove programs and close the Control panel.
